From the moment a husband and wife exchange vows, they each gain a partner in this life to walk with through every situation ahead, including spiritual situations. As believers, marriage means that we are spiritually connected and well as connected in every other area. We become one spiritually, and this means the Lord will often use your spouse to speak to you.
The Lord uses our relationships to reveal things to our hearts. When a spiritual connection draws you together from the start, it will continue to draw you together in decision making.
Something your mind may be too cluttered with distractions and with your own self will to even hear the Lord’s wisdom in your spouse. Humility needs to take place in your heart. If your spouse is sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s promptings, as a team you can together discern the Lord’s will. Keep your ears open to what your spouse is saying, because it could very well be the Lord using them as a mouthpiece.
How are we supposed to function as one body when we are not willing to hear what the person we are unified with trying to tell us? How foolish would it be for us to think we ourselves have all the answers when we are made to be a complete team, together?
It is easy to jump to the offensive when our spouse is trying to convey to us what the Lord has placed on their heart. We would be unwise to brush them off or pretend we have all the answers. We are to be each other’s confidants and helpers, to be looking out for each other’s best interests.
I am slowly learning through trial and error that when my husband tells me something that I may not believe I need to hear, or when he tells me that he has prayed and wants me to join in prayer about a specific issue, it is in the team’s best interest to listen. I am learning that my Father has given me not only a friend and a spouse, but a spiritual companion as well.
