Twelve Days of Blessing for Your Marriage

You made your list. Now check it twice: have you included a gift for your marriage?

This Christmas, I have been searching for a gift for my marriage. I like the idea of celebrating the twelve days of Christmas with my true love. But have you priced a partridge in a pear tree lately? That unique-but-classic gift will cost over $200 this year. And while ten lords-a-leaping would be amusing, the $5,500 credit-card bill would not be. According to the PNC Financial Services Group, purchasing the entire “Twelve Days of Christmas” package would cost $116,000 this year.

I am looking for something more priceless than pricey. Something more like this:

Twelve Days of Blessing for Your Marriage

On the first day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the second day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
two acts of kindness
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the third day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the fourth day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the fifth day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the sixth day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
six super kisses,
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the seventh day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
“seven times seventy” forgiveness,
six super kisses,
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the eighth day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
an eight-minute back rub,
“seven times seventy” forgiveness,
six super kisses,
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the ninth day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
nine gentle touches,
an eight-minute back rub,
“seven times seventy” forgiveness,
six super kisses,
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the tenth day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
ten-toe massaging,
nine gentle touches,
an eight-minute back rub,
“seven times seventy” forgiveness,
six super kisses,
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
eleven words a–thanking,
ten-toe massaging,
nine gentle touches,
an eight-minute back rub,
“seven times seventy” forgiveness,
six super kisses,
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
to my true love I will give
twelve words admiring,
eleven words a-thanking,
ten-toe massaging,
nine gentle touches,
an eight-minute back rub,
“seven times seventy” forgiveness,
six super kisses,
five prayer-filled minutes,
four hugs embracing,
three words: “I love you,”
two acts of kindness,
and a promise kept “to have and to hold.”

May the Giver of every good gift (including partridges and pear trees) bless your marriage this Christmas as you make music in your heart to Him.
